Mandala is a drawing on the plan of the circle, plastic technique. Mandala is derived from the Hindu tradition, and its name means "the circle of life, the whole world, the holy circle." The circle is considered a symbol of harmony and perfection.
The basic form of the mandala consists of a circle with squares (with sides oriented to the sides of the world). The mandala symbol is present in almost all cultures in the world. They are readily used by Buddhist monks for whom the exercise and viewing of a mandala is a form of meditation.
The Buddhist mandala is a harmonious combination of circle and square, where the circle is a symbol of heaven, transcendence, externality and infinity, while the square represents the sphere of interiority, what is associated with man and earth. Both figures connect the central point, which is both the beginning and the end of the whole system. There are different types of mandalas. There are purifying mandalas, there are also mandalas strengthening specific features or individual areas of human life. In the broadest sense, mandalas are diagrams that show how chaos takes on a harmonious form.
In western culture, the mandala was popularized thanks to the famous Swiss psychoanalyst and psychiatrist Karol Gustav Jung. He perceived the therapauetic operation of the mandala, which performed spontaneously reflects the psychic state of the author. Creating a mandala helps in regaining balance and inner harmony.
